Equine Lameness Assesments
Our team of equine vets, led by Orthopaedic Surgeon Hugh Somerville BVSc Cert AVP (ESO)(VDI) MRCVS, are all very experienced when it comes to lameness.
Lameness can occur for a wide variety of reasons. Our vets are able to investigate, diagnose and treat the majority of these cases at your own yard.
Investigative procedures may include:
- Examination of your horse’s movement – in hand and or under saddle
- Nerve and joint blocking
- X-ray and ultrasound
Diagnostic imaging is essential in order to work up a case to get the answers we need to deliver the correct diagnosis and determine treatment options.
For more complex cases, or if extra facilities are required, referral to our equine clinic is an option, where your horse can be examined by our orthopaedic specialist in state-of-the-art facilities.
The indoor trot up and hard and soft lunge pens offer optimum mediums for diagnosis, with the advanced diagnostic imaging equipment on site enabling us to provide a complete evaluation.
Following diagnosis, we will offer treatments and advise on exercise regimes to aid recovery. We work closely with owners and other industry professional such as local farriers to assist in remedial shoeing and physiotherapists / animal therapists to assist with any rehabilitation required to ensure the best possible outcome for your horse.
We regularly accept second opinion cases and referrals from other veterinary practices. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
